Bethany Merritt is a jazz vocalist and educator based in Nashville, Tennessee. Her smooth song styling is full of nuance - pure yet commanding. Bethany can frequently be seen performing at Nashville’s premiere jazz venues, such as Rudy’s Jazz Room and the Nashville Jazz Workshop with her quartet and with the Ryan Middagh Jazz Orchestra. Bethany is an Instructor of Commercial Voice Belmont University, where she directs the commercial vocal ensemble Company, teaches private voice lessons, and various undergraduate and graduate vocal courses. As a back-up vocalist, Bethany has shared the stage with Sara Bareilles, The New York Voices, Hans Zimmer, Ben Folds, Josh Groban, and Aubrey Logan.

 

After earning her Bachelor’s in Commercial Music with an emphasis in Performance from Belmont University, Bethany began working on Mackinac Island, Michigan as the vocalist at the Grand Hotel. There, she fronted the Grand Hotel Jazz Orchestra nightly. In May of 2017, Bethany earned her Masters of Music in Jazz Performance as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Northern Colorado, where she studied with Kerry Marsh and Julia Dollison. She has previously been an adjunct faculty member at Vanderbilt University, Lipscomb University, Nashville State Community College, and the Ensworth School.
